The group got to meet each other at the freshman orientation. They listened to a lot of boring speeches and introductions by the President and faculty, and received a piece of vital wisdom from am upperclassman (Be A Zebra!).
From there things got more interesting as a series of events unfolded that suggested mystery, but provided little in the way of answers. A lucky bout of lock-picking only compounded the questions as the students found a mess of fire extinguishers stashed away inside one of the maintenance rooms under the Raven’s Roost.
The party got started in the arena and more socialization took place. Eventually Faustus was lead astray by a pretty face named Nina. She eventually burned him. With her warning that “You’re all going to burn.” Faustus began to look for the source of the threat.
While Faustus was getting singed, Pru and Alexander decided to leave the party, but were quickly called back once Faustus figured out more of what was afoot (and managed to regain cell reception). Back inside, the group discovered the ritual markings ringing the as they begin to smolder, and decided that the best way to remove them is to set off the fire sprinklers.
Returning to the maintenance room the group of students found that someone had been busy there while they were away. A couple of unconscious janitors were handcuffed to pipes, while the sprinkler maintenance cutoff had been chained closed, the fire sprinkler system drained. As they worked on getting the padlock open, they were confronted by the apparent mastermind of the evening, a security guard. A brief fight ensued, after which the guard was subdued and his keys opened the padlock and the handcuffs. Sprinklers soon rained down across the entirety of the Raven’s Roost. While handling the cutoff valve, a mysterious spiny figure swooped in and carried off the unconscious security guard, leaving few answers.
The fledgling fire, coupled with the fire alarm and sudden deluge released panic above, and the group found throngs of freshmen pressed against the now-chained main entrances, but at least the sprinklers seemed have stopped whatever foul ritual that was in store for the class of 2018. Eventually order was restored. Emergency services arrived, and all was well.
Glen Maclanahan (Glenmac) – Professor and ghost hunter. Took an interest in the characters, and will likely have future dealings.
Jackson Green – Glenmac’s assistant. Graduate student. Flirt.
President Nelson – President of ETU. The group has his attention after the confusing events at the Sweat Lodge.
Blaine Bishop – Stoic police detective.
Nina – Hottie (ah, these fire puns are great). Also probably dead.
Security Guard – Name unknown. Current location, also unknown.
Spiny Mystery Creature – Enigmatic. Pointy.
Bradley McElroy – Attending ETU on a wrestling scholarship, provided assistance to Pru and Alexander during the evacuation. Mountain of a man.
I thought things went better than I expected. It didn’t seem like an adventure that’s organized well for running in Fantasy Grounds, but it went very smoothly. Apart from a touch of time manipulation it took very little effort on my part to keep things moving.
It was far more mystery and establishment, with only small bouts of scattered action, and whether that worked or not is really up to the PCs, but I’m pretty sure it at least wasn’t a disaster.
